The annual Prudential RideLondon took place this weekend. If you didn’t know, this is London’s 3 day mega cycling event when London is taken over by thousands of spectators, nearly 30,000 riders of all abilities hit the closed-road course, and the pro teams battle it out for the title in the Classic (mens) and Classique (womens) title.

This year, Tom Boonen of Etixx-Quickstep snatched the victory in the Mens Classic, and Netherland’s Kirsten Wild from Team Hi-tec team won the womens Classique event. Geraint Thomas made a brave attack with 50km to go but couldn’t hold it and ultimately struggled to maintain the gap and was swallowed up by the peleton with 5km to go. Froome was quite content to chill out in the pack and save himself for Rio 2016 starting this weekend.

Bikmo Dave and I headed down on the Saturday to check out the Women’s Classique event and the Brompton World champs. Here’s a few pics of the team prep and racing action:

There aren’t any decent highlight videos out there and the coverage is looong, but this video from  30km below:

It’s great to see such large scale cycling events in the capital getting so many people out to watch or take part. Let’s hope they continue to grow and for international racing to come to more of our UK cities.
